Water quality investment work
Welsh Water cleans 800 million litres of water every day before it is distributed through 27,000km of water pipes.
With some of our pipes over 100 years old, over time, natural deposits can build up inside. While these deposits are not harmful, every now and then we need to clear them to ensure the water stays clean, fresh and tastes great for years to come. We’ll use a variety of techniques to clear the pipes and at times will also need to replace some pipes.

How the work may affect you
We’ll do all we can to ensure that the work has the least impact possible on you when it is taking place. You may however experience low water pressure while we are carrying out work, but this should only be temporary. If we do need to turn off your water during the work, it will only be for a short period of time and we will give you plenty of warning. If you are worried about being without water, please get in touch.
This kind of work can also cause your tap water to appear darker or cloudy for a short period. Please be assured that this is perfectly normal during this type of work. We advise you run the cold kitchen tap until the water runs clear. If the water is dark, don’t do any laundry as it may stain clothes. It isn’t permanent though, so if this happens wait until the water clears and then wash your clothes as normal. For more information please click here.
