Welsh Water celebrates its multi million pound investment with Anglesey communities

17/05/2019

Communities from across Anglesey come out in force to celebrate the work that Welsh Water has been doing to upgrade the water pipes which supply thousands of customers on the island.

Welsh Water had organised a free family fun day as a way of giving something back to the communities where it has been working. The work has involved either replacing or cleansing over 220km of pipe – which is the same distance as travelling from Holyhead to Barmouth and back.

The community event which was held in Amlwch, proved to be a massive success with over 200 people attending the event. Customers, young and old enjoyed a variety of activities and had lots of fun on the bouncy castles, surfboard, face painting, crafts, and unlimited refreshments, and not forgetting lots of tasty cakes.

Assembly Member for Anglesey, Rhun ap Iorwerth who came along to the event said “I was delighted to hear that Welsh Water had arranged an event to thank all those communities for their patience whilst they carried out there essential works. This investment across Anglesey will ensure that residents in those affected communities will receive top quality drinking water for many years to come.”

Local Councillor Richard Griffiths for Twrcelyn, said “I am pleased to see that the investment within the community of Amlwch has now been completed, it was essential work that needed doing, and despite the disruption caused, the community accepted that the work will have long term benefits for all those living in the town. The contractors were hard working, and did the best they could to get the job done. The event organised by Welsh Water had a fantastic turn out, the community were certainly celebrating, and appreciated Welsh Water doing this for their community”

The not-for-profit utility company has invested £14.85 million on the drinking water network in the north and west of Anglesey so that customers in the area can receive a first class water supply every time they open the tap.

The work on Anglesey started in 2017 and throughout the investment Welsh Water has engaged with communities, groups and schools across Anglesey, to ensure customers are aware of the work and to teach children more about why the work is being carried out and how the water network works.

The company has also supported a number of local events in the areas they have been working, including Anglesey show, community fun days, clean ups, fayres and Christmas light events.

Welsh Water’s Infrastructure Programme Manager, Aled Morgan said: “We are delighted the work is now complete. Our investment will further enhance the service we deliver to our customers in the area. We appreciate that work on our network can cause some inconvenience and we would like to thank everyone for bearing with us while undertook the investment”.

“Supplying our customers with a first class drinking water supply is one of our main priorities in Welsh Water an completing the work in these parts of Anglesey brings us a step closer to ensuring we achieve this for our customers.”
