Welsh Water is the only UK Water and Sewerage Company represented in PREPARED, a €7m European project examining adaptation to climate change.
Who are Prepared?
Over a period of five years, PREPARED will work with a number of urban utilities in Europe and worldwide to develop advanced strategies to meet anticipated challenges in the water supply and sanitation sectors brought about by climate change.
The project involves 20 research organisations and 15 demonstration partners (water and sewerage utilities) from across Europe, as well as in America and Australia.
Welsh Water’s involvement
Welsh Water is representing Wales and is the only UK utility company involved in the project.
The research work will examine the technological and procedural advances necessary to respond to potential challenges of climate change and enable the Company to become more adaptive to uncertainty about the scale of future climate scenarios and other challenges on the water cycle.
Working with The University of Bradford
The University of Bradford are our partners in the project and staff from the University are undertaking research within Welsh Water that will steer the way in which the Company needs to ‘PREPARE’ itself for the future.
The findings of the research will be implemented in a number of pilot areas and then refined to produce an outline action plan for the business that will also take account of the wider changes necessary for Wales to be more adaptive to the uncertainties of climate change.
