The Water Act 2014 received Royal Assent in May 2014. This new legislation
includes provisions to give all non-household customers of companies operating
wholly or mainly in England choice over their supplier of water and wastewater retail
services. It will extend choice to over a million more businesses, public sector
organisations and charities in England. For companies operating wholly or mainly in
Wales, a small number of the very largest business and industrial customers (those
using more than 50 million litres – Ml – of water each year) can already choose their
